Season 1, Day 22/30
This is not a painting of Marilyn, the human. It is a portrait of her erasure.
One Minute, One Masterpiece, One Modern Idea
Andy Warhol uses the mechanical silk-screen process to mass-produce 50 images of Marilyn Monroe. She is no longer a human being. She is a celebrity image, endlessly consumed. The color and vibrancy of the left side fade and distort on the right. Icon rises. Person vanishes. She is reduced to a pattern; an Instagram grid.
Today, we use filters, create personal brands, and wear digital masks.
But who are we really behind the avatar?
We are constantly seen, but are we known?
More visibility does not create connection- it flattens the self.
Warhol shows us how the unending consumption of the “image” dissolves our identity.
Don’t be a persona, be you.
And that is why it matters.
To reflect: Where has being seen begun to blur who you really are?
